When you feel like who you are will never be enough.
There are days when it feels like everyone else has figured out how to live, and somehow you’re still trying to figure out where you fit.
You look around and see people accomplishing things, building relationships, moving forward, and seemingly knowing exactly what they’re doing. Meanwhile, you’re doing your best to get through another day without feeling like you’ve fallen behind.
It can leave you wondering whether you’re doing enough, giving enough, or even being enough for the people around you.
The exhausting part is that no matter how much you try, there’s always something else you could have done better. Another responsibility you could have handled, someone you could have helped, or a situation you wish you’d responded to differently.
Eventually, you start measuring your worth by everything you haven’t managed to accomplish.
And that’s a miserable way to live.
Sometimes we carry those same expectations into our relationship with God. We think we need to pray better, understand Scripture more, have stronger faith, or somehow get ourselves together before we can draw closer to Him.
But God never asked us to become impressive enough to deserve His presence.
He already knows our weaknesses, our struggles, and the thoughts we don’t particularly want anyone else hearing. Yet He invites us to come to Him anyway.
There is something comforting about realizing that we don’t have to convince God we’re worth His time.
Through Christ, we have access to a Father who loves us, and His Spirit dwells within those who belong to Him. His presence isn’t something we have to earn by becoming a better version of ourselves.
Maybe what we need most isn’t another opportunity to prove we can handle everything.
Perhaps we need to stop trying so hard to be enough for everyone and spend some time with the One who already knows us completely.
Because there will be days when our confidence is nowhere to be found, our accomplishments seem insignificant, and the world makes us feel like we’re taking up space we haven’t earned.
On those days, I don’t need God to stand somewhere in the distance and cheer me on while I try harder.
I need Him as close as He can possibly get.
Not because I have everything together, but because I don’t.
And thankfully, He never required me to.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” 2 Corinthians 12:9
