God can handle the outcome.
There are situations in life where there doesn’t seem to be a good way out.
Every choice affects somebody. Saying something could hurt people. Staying quiet could hurt you. Walking away has consequences, but continuing the way things are has consequences too. Sometimes you can think through every possible outcome and still realize there may not be a choice where everybody walks away happy.
That is a hard place to live, especially when you have genuinely been trying to do the right thing.
You have tried to be patient, kind, helpful, forgiving, and careful with your words. You have tried not to keep a record of every wrong or let frustration control your reactions. You have given grace because you know how much grace God has given you.
But grace does not mean you never get tired.
You can love people and still feel unloved. You can keep giving and still feel taken for granted. You can keep showing up while quietly wondering when your own life is going to be allowed to move forward again.
One of the hardest parts is realizing that the standard you are trying to live by may not be the standard everyone around you is using.
Still, somebody else’s behavior does not give us permission to abandon what God is asking from us. Their anger does not justify ours. Their selfishness does not make selfishness right for us, and their unwillingness to forgive does not mean we should start keeping score.
At the same time, following God does not mean pretending everything is fine.
Being loving does not always mean saying yes. Patience does not mean allowing an unhealthy situation to continue forever. Forgiveness does not require us to ignore wisdom, and kindness does not mean we will never have to make a difficult decision.
Sometimes doing the right thing requires courage.
It may mean finally saying what needs to be said without trying to wound anybody. It may mean setting a boundary without hatred behind it. It may mean admitting something cannot continue the way it has been going. Or sometimes it may mean staying a little longer when every part of you wants to leave because God has not released you from it yet.
That is why situations like this require more than good intentions. They require God.
When we feel backed into a corner, we do not only need God to change the circumstances around us. We need Him to guard what is happening inside us while we wait.
We need Him to keep bitterness from taking root, hurt from choosing our words, fear from making our decisions, and exhaustion from convincing us that any decision is better than waiting for wisdom.
There may not always be a choice that keeps everyone comfortable. Sometimes all we can do is ask God for wisdom, examine our own heart, make the most faithful decision we know how to make, and trust Him with what happens afterward.
You are responsible for your obedience.
God can handle the outcome.
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”
Romans 12:18 KJV
If you are in a situation right now where you feel stuck, hurt, overlooked, or unsure what the right next step should be, ask God to help you think clearly, speak carefully, love honestly, and recognize when obedience requires patience and when it requires courage.
You do not have to control every outcome.
Do what is yours to do, and trust God with what belongs to Him.
