When We Stop Talking

Freedom of Speech Prayer | Sound Mind Projects

There is a difference between standing for truth and becoming unwilling to hear anyone who disagrees with us.

Charlie Kirk once said, “When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence.” His words point to something bigger than politics. A free country needs the ability to disagree, ask difficult questions, challenge ideas, and still recognize the humanity of the person standing on the other side.

Freedom of speech is not only about protecting the things we agree with. It protects our ability to speak truth, question authority, share our faith, expose wrongdoing, challenge bad ideas, and openly search for what is true.

But Scripture reminds us that freedom to speak should also come with wisdom about how we listen.

James 1:19–20

Be quick to listen, careful with your words, and slow to anger, because human anger does not produce the kind of righteousness God desires.

Proverbs 18:17

The first side of a story can sound convincing until someone else speaks and brings more truth to light.
