I Said No Bio:
“I Said No” is a lyric video inspired by Jonah’s story, the mercy of God, and the uncomfortable places where obedience confronts pride.
Jonah heard God clearly. The direction was not hidden, and the call was not confusing. Still, he did not want to go where God was sending him.
At first glance, the story may seem like it is only about Jonah running from an assignment. Under the surface, though, the deeper issue was mercy.
Jonah knew God was gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and full of lovingkindness. That was exactly why he resisted.
The people of Nineveh were not people Jonah wanted to see rescued. In his heart, judgment felt easier than compassion.
That truth can be hard to sit with, because the same struggle can show up in us.
Grace feels necessary when we are the ones who are broken, but justice can feel more satisfying when someone else has failed. Patience matters when we are still growing, yet consequences may feel more appropriate when another person is the one who needs mercy.
But God’s mercy does not stop being mercy when it reaches beyond us.
The Heart Behind the Song
These lyrics came from that tension:
“Your voice was clear
The choice was mine
Mercy was calling
Past my pride”
Into the storm, into the depths, and into the dark, God’s mercy still reached Jonah.
His grace did not excuse the running, but it did not abandon him there either. Mercy corrected him, covered him, and called him forward again.
That is the heart behind this song.
“I said no
You said go
Grace went deeper
Than the road I chose”
For anyone who feels like they resisted too long, ran too far, or chose the wrong road, this song is a reminder that God is not limited by the route we took.
His mercy can still find us, and His grace can meet us even when we have taken the wrong road. He can correct us, restore us, and still call us forward.
Maybe it is also a reminder for the heart still holding a stone.
Mercy is not only meant to rescue us. It is meant to reshape us.
“Take the anger
Take the stone
Turn this heart
Toward Your own”
Scripture Reflection
“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness.”
Psalm 145:8
“Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time…”
Jonah 3:1
A second call is still grace.
