Scripture for Reflection
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
What Is a Devotional Echo?
A Devotional Echo is a secondary devotion or lyric piece connected to an original anthem, Bible study, or devotion, and it carries the same message from a slightly different angle.
This devotional echo is connected to SMPBS #27: You Move Me.
Devotion
Some of the hardest battles are the ones nobody else can see.
You can get up, go to work, answer people when they ask how you are doing, and still feel like something inside you is wearing you down.
Sometimes that battle is addiction, and sometimes it is a habit, a thought pattern, anger, shame, numbness, or the need to escape from something you do not know how to face.
One of the hardest parts is knowing you still love God and still want to do better, yet somehow you keep ending up back in the same place.
That kind of struggle can leave you exhausted, and after a while, it can also leave you carrying a lot of shame.
You start wondering why you are still dealing with this, why you cannot just get past it, or why something you have prayed about so many times still seems to have a hold on you.
That is part of the heart behind “You Moved Me.”
This song is not only about God changing what is happening around us, because sometimes the first thing He changes is what is happening inside us.
We usually want the whole problem gone. We want the craving to disappear, the habit broken, the memory to stop hurting, and the shame lifted so we can finally feel free.
Sometimes that happens quickly, but other times healing begins much more quietly.
It may begin when you finally admit what is really going on, or when you sit still long enough to recognize what you have been trying not to feel.
Sometimes there is grief underneath the anger, fear underneath the control, or pain underneath the escape, and stillness has a way of bringing those things to the surface.
That can be uncomfortable, but God is not intimidated by what comes up.
He is not shocked by your struggle, and He is not standing at a distance waiting for you to get yourself together first.
He meets you where you are.
Sometimes the first real step toward freedom is simply becoming honest enough to say, “God, this is where I am.”
That may not feel dramatic, and nobody else may even notice, but something has started to move.
You finally ask for help, and you stop pretending everything is fine. You choose not to hide anymore, and instead of trying to find the perfect words, you simply tell God the truth.
Somewhere in that honesty, you begin to believe that this struggle does not have to define the rest of your life.
Those small moments matter, because freedom does not always begin with one huge breakthrough.
Sometimes it begins with a little more honesty, a little less hiding, and a willingness to let God into the place you have been protecting.
That is the reminder behind “You Moved Me.”
God can move us forward, but sometimes He starts by moving us out of hiding, out of shame, out of pretending everything is fine, and out of the belief that we are too far gone for Him to reach us.
You may not have everything figured out yet, and you may still be fighting. There may even be days when it feels like you are starting over, but that does not mean God is absent.
His work may already be happening in ways you cannot see yet.
Sometimes freedom begins the moment we stop running from Him and let Him meet us exactly where we are.
When God begins moving the heart, the darkness does not get the final word.
Prayer
Lord, meet me in the places I have been afraid to bring into the light, and help me be honest about where I am and what I am struggling with.
Give me courage to reach for help when I need it, strength for the next step, and faith to believe that my story is not finished.
Keep moving me toward freedom.
Amen.
Reflection
What is one place in my life where I need to stop hiding and be honest with God?
Closing Thought
Sometimes freedom begins with one honest moment before God.
